Alice Smith gives a tranquil range of vocals that caught my intriguing ear. She reminds me a lot of Lauren Hill but a more calm version. On the press section of her website, Alice Smith has won the hearts of magazines and newspapers such as: Rolling Stone, The New York Times, and Vibe. They have acknowledged her gifted palette and couldn’t classify her with other artists like Norah Jones or Alicia Keys. She has done live performances on Jimmy Kimmel and Ellen. Smith has yet to hit mainstream, but she is on the way. She doesn’t have any posted tour dates near Indianapolis anytime soon, but you can listen to her soothing songs on her MySpace.

This will begin by an introduction telling what my future blogs are going to be about. As this is being written, I am listening to bands that will be hosting a concert within the next few days. Point blank, that is what my blogs are. I will bring your attention to and hopefully open your eyes to people, bands, and venues that you’ve probably never heard before. If you have, congratulations on being faster than myself. I will primarily focus on Central Indiana locations to please readers with convenient and gas-friendly places of rocking out. I will not discriminate on age, race, religion, and/or censorship. I am here to bring you good music based solely (or SOUL-y, if you will) on the music; including lyrics, music and unique genre the artist may classify as being apart of. I am always up for constructive criticism and suggestions to cover another artist/ band. Hopefully you will like what I have to offer and will be considered IUPUI’s personal Blender reporter.
Josh Holmes is a Northern Indiana native and has been on the music scene since 1998. He has been on tour with locations across the world (or “Across the Universe” for all you Beatles fans). Most of shows have been in the States but have also reached Europe quite frequently. He has put himself in an Indie/ Acoustic/ Powerpop category according to his Myspace. His shows may range from having a solo performance to a full band or even with an electric accompaniment. Regardless of who may or may not be helping this talent, Holmes personal skill is undeniable. His next show will be tomorrow March 5 at Kilroy’s Sports Bar in Bloomington, IN at 10 p.m. If you can’t make it on a Wednesday night because you are absolutely consumed by Mid-terms, catch him again at the same time, same place on Friday, March 7.
