Saving money can greatly reduce your risk of stress

By Castillo on July 21st, 2008

Money. Its on our mind constantly, but are we thinking about it in productive ways? Instead of constantly worrying about how much things cost or if we are going to have enough of that green paper goodness to fund our life we could find better ways to turn our dollar into more. I recently read a great article that said saving money can be as simple as utilizing fifteen minutes a day to do quick money saving activities that really start to add up. The article lists about a hundred ways you can start saving yourself money, but you can start by using just a few that reach out and grab you. If you decide to start there is nothing to lose except maybe stress and if you don’t start then you might lose money. There is really no excuse, so get to it!

Summer ends.Stress begins.

By Castillo on July 15th, 2008

School is just around the corner. If you are a student, like me you’ve probably been enjoying the carefree summer break. Maybe you’ve even forgotten how stressed out you tend to feel when you are performing the balancing act of school and work during the year. Most likely you still remember. Perhaps it even haunted you a bit when you were trying to relax by the pool or made you shudder as you cleaned the table off at the restaurant you have summer employment at. Now is an excellent time to start stocking up on tips to help you sail through the school year with flying colors. If nothing else, it might make you a little more pleasant to be around. First, you should take a look at yourself and assess whether you could eliminate some of your stress. Sometimes we act before we think and a little thought can save a lot of time and stress. You know the old golden rule about treating others as you would want to be treated, well it can actually work in your favor. Embracing positive self thought can really shine through and change the way you treat those around you, which in turn changes the way those around you treat you. Sometimes being positive towards others is thought of as being unselfish but it is actually a selfish way of being. Hmm… ponder that for awhile.

Stress is good, right?

By Castillo on April 22nd, 2008

Your body has built in physical responses to stressful situations. Often we think of our bodies stress response as a fight or flight reaction. The body originally developed this response to protect us periodically from predators such as animals (think caveman lifestyle). In our world today we deal with many different moments that could cause the stress reaction of our bodies to occur quite often. Even though times have changed our bodies response has not changed. This constant activation of our stress response can actually be harmful. For example, we are not being chased by dinosaurs but maybe we are stressing out about a presentation at school and thus are body prolongs the response time. Therefore, our body releases chemicals and hormones that may actually be damaging to us if produced over an extended period of time…read more

Music to My Ears

By Castillo on April 18th, 2008

Music can affect our mood and state of mind. Music with slower tempo can relax our minds because our brain waves adjust to the music. Likewise, music with a faster beat can trigger an increase in concentration. Music can change or lower breathing and heart rate as well which ultimately leads to a healthier you. Music therapy is becoming more and more popular. To find out more about this growing trend in relaxation visit the American Music Therapy Association’s website.
