Wine Drinkers- You May be Toasting to Breast Cancer.

New study emerging from the UK shows middle aged women who drink alcohol are actually linking themselves to breast cancer. The Department of Health suggests that those who drink a glass of wine a night are likely to increase their risk of breast cancer by 60 percent. The study recommends drinking no more than 14 units of alcohol a week (a typical glass of wine is about three units). The UK is planning on launching a campaign to bring about awareness .

Don’t Feel Like Exercising? Could Be Where You Live.

A recent study done in Chicago revealed that exercise routines among women varied from neighborhood to neighborhood. Evidence suggest that those neighborhoods with high poverty levels and households headed by women were less likely to be places were the residents felt comfortable to exercise outside. Those neighborhoods with low poverty levels and more households headed by men had the opposite result.

Ladies, when you go out to dinner are you more likely to order a fat, juicy steak, or a cool, green leafy salad with almonds and cranberries? A doctor out of Yale University School of Medicine says that women are more likely to order the veggies. Differences in how women perceive food differently from men guide us into making different menu choices.

Banned Growth Hormone May Not Be Effective on High School Athletes

Mothers with children involved in athletics worry about their kids competing against those with an unfair advantage. The high school kids who look like professional athletes could certainly bring a beating to a less-developed child. With so many news stories revolving around high school athletes taking growth hormones to get ahead, a new review has come out claiming that this may not prove to be effective. According to the Stanford University School of Medicine, high school athletes who have been taking a banned growth hormone may not be “one-upping” their competition after all. Hau Liu, MD from Stanford says, “What we saw is that while there was a change in body composition, that didn’t translate to an improvement in performance.” Athletes who took this hormone had a leaner body composition, but were not necessarily the strongest or the fastest.

Aromatherapy = Fun Idea, Not Medicine.

Women get stressed easily. What better way to relieve the stress of a long day than to draw a nice warm lavender bubble bath and melt our day away. Right? Wrong. A recent study done in March 2008 suggests that although the popularity of “Aromatherapy” has risen in the past few years, medical proof has shown that is not an effective form of healing. Stress, pain control, and wound healing were among the symptoms tested.

ADHD, and We Thought Guys Had it Bad.

It seems as though our male counter-parts are more susceptible and effected by ADHD than women. However, evidence suggests that in adulthood, women are actually more affected by the disorder. Whereas a man might have more physical symptoms of ADHD, women tend to have more emotional symptoms, which could have lead to their misdiagnosis.
